Malaysia, 17 October - Datuk Seri Najib Razak's Budget 2011 today drew praise for its focus on generating wealth and putting Malaysia in the international spotlight."When you look at the amount of money these mega-projects will generate for us, it really is impressive," said a senior UMNO division chief. "The 5-billion ringgit tower itself should push about 1 billion into our pockets. Najib knows how to take care of his people well."
He also added that the Prime Minister's move to exempt sales tax on mobile phones and the import duty and excise duty on hybrid cars would please many UMNO bigwigs.
"Many of us were eyeing the iPhone 4...and a new car as well."
Also praising Najib was Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe. In describing Najib's budget, Mugabe deemed is as "spectacular" and "something we are considering emulating in Zimbabwe...his dedication to generating wealth and plundering national coffers impresses me", noting that Najib was "a man after my own heart".
The President of Zimbabwe has long been friends with Malaysia's top leaders, often holidaying in Malaysia and golfing with the Prime Minister.
But Najib's rave reviews are not limited to eminent African leaders. Former US President George W. Bush has also responded positively to Najib's Budget 2011.
"Najeeb's budget is, uh - well it's huge. Nucular huge. You know, back when I was President, I think I misunderestimated this fella - now I want to bring him to Texas for some pork ribs," said Bush.
Being a Muslim, Najib cannot of course consume pork.
The Bugdet 2011 comes amid a string of great successes in Najib's administration. Upon taking the premiership, he tabled his wildly popular '1Malaysia' concept, before proposing a slew of reforms that have garnered him much support. His New Economic Model (NEM) in particular has been given the stamp of approval by many esteemed economists.
Is it any wonder that Najib will lead Barisan Nasional to an electoral landslide in 2011?
